There’s something irresistible about silk-ribbon embroidery—the way a single twist of ribbon can bloom into a rose, curl into a leaf, or brighten a seam with quiet elegance. That allure prompted us to search past issues of PieceWork and gather four of our favorite elegant floral designs. We’re happy to introduce them in Ribbons of Silk, our new eBook collection of silk-ribbon designs created for stitchers who love texture, color, and the magic of dimensional needlework.

A field of dimensional forget-me-nots comes to life in this beautiful silk-ribbon embroidery.

You’ll be delighted by four silk-ribbon embroidery patterns that draw inspiration from a lavish Victorian-era cape in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Using the original piece as her guide, embroidery artist Deanna Hall West chose four flowers from the cape—marguerite daisies, forget-me-nots, rosebuds, and fuchsias—and crafted a design for each. Deanna enriches each design with notes on the flower’s symbolic meaning throughout the ages.

Delicate rosebuds are brought to life by fussy cutting the hand-dyed silk ribbon.

Clear instructions, illustrations of special techniques, and detailed material lists, many from our friends at Treenway Silks, provide everything you need to get started. And because this is a PieceWork collection, we’ve also included an in-depth article on the history of silk-ribbon embroidery from eighteenth-century France to today.

In the spirit of gratitude, we're offering , the Ribbons of Silk eBook as a special gift through the end of the year. We hope these patterns bring beauty to your projects and spark many hours of joyful making.

Happy stitching,

Karen
