"Shetland-Style Lace Bonnet to Knit"
If you had difficulty with this project, these additional notes may help to clarify the instructions and establish the lace kitting procedures used in the pattern. Although it is a challenge, this exceptionally beautiful lace is also well worth the time taken to master it.

The Bonnet starts with 112 cast-on stitches. In row 7, the number of stitches increases to 113 (there is one more "yo" than "sl 1, k1, psso," resulting in the extra stitch). In row 8, the number of stitches is reduced to 112 again by the single p2 tog near the beginning of the row. This leaves the even number of stitches needed to work the hem correctly.

The following reworded instructions for making the hem may be clearer than the originals: Make hem by taking a smaller-size needle and with wrong side facing and starting from the left, pick up one loop for every stitch along the cast-on edge. (Knit one stitch from each needle together) four times, purl one stitch from each needle together until 4 stitches remain on each needle, (knit one stitch from each needle together) four times, purl one stitch from each needle together until 4 stitches remain on each needle, (knit one stitch from each needle together) four times. If you work the remainder of the bonnet edge according to the corrected instructions (below), there will be 113 stitches, which is the number needed for row 1 of the Rosebud and Leaf pattern.

When working the Rosebud and Leaf pattern, note the last repeat of the row. Work from the * only until the specified number of stitches remains, which may not always take you to the end of the sequence. For instance, in row 1 when you work the fourth and final repeat from * to the last 2 sts, the last sl2, k1, p2sso of the sequence will be omitted and replaced with the final k2 tog.

In the second to last paragraph, which begins "work five more rows in garter," do not decrease on stitch at the center of the last row. (113 sts)
