The headband has optional crossstraps. They add stability to the headband, which in the Antarctic normally was worn for added warmth under a fur hat or parka hood and to prevent the headband from sliding down below the wearer's ears.

Finished Size: 24 inches (61.0 cm) circumference, blocked.

Yarn: Spud & Chloe Fine Sock, 80% wool/20% silk yarn, sock weight, 248 yards (226.8 m)/65 gram (2.3 oz) skein, 1 skein of #7810 Lipstick;

Needles: size 2 (2.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge; extra needle for BO

Notions: Waste yarn; Tapestry needle

Gauge: 30 sts and 40 rows = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in garter stitch, blocked; 48 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in k1, p1 ribbing, blocked
