Inspired by Annis Holmes, Joanna reworked an interpretation of the buff stitch, using wool yarn and also creating the stitch with a single strand of working yarn, rather than with two different working yarns, as Annis's acrylic technique necessitated.

Finished size: 6 inches (15.2 cm) hand circumference and 6¼ inches (15.9 cm) tall; sized for a child 2 to 4 years old Yarn: Brown Sheep Company Lanaloft, 100% wool yarn, worsted weight, 160 yards (146.3 m)/100 gram (3.5 oz) skein, 1 skein each of #LL33 Manor Grey (MC), #LL62 Choke Cherry (CC1), and LL01 Cottage White (CC2) Needles: straight size 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge Notions: Tapestry needle, markers, stitch holder or waste yarn Gauge: 16 sts and 18 rows = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in Loop st Originally Published: PieceWork January/February 2016
