Tilney Socks Knitting Pattern Download

These elegant socks for a gentleman are inspired by the kind and sensible hero of Northanger Abbey, Henry Tilney. They are cuff-down men’s socks with an interesting but sensible ribbing pattern on the front of the sock and a twisted traveling stitch diamond pattern down the center of the back of the leg—reminiscent of a stocking seam. The rib pattern continues on to the toe and the heel flap. Finished Size: 7¼ (8½, 9¾)" (will stretch to fit foot circumference 7¾ (9, 10¼)", leg length 7¼".

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock (80% superwash Merino, 20% nylon; 435 yd [398 m]/3½ oz [100 g]) cedar, 1 skein.

Needles: Size 1 (2.25 mm): set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Stitch marker (m); st holder (optional); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.

Gauge: 36 sts and 52 rows = 4" in St st.
