Roman's Sweater Knitting Pattern Download

This striped, fisherman's sweater is based on the sweater Roman Karpwitch is wearing in the 1884 image taken by Prince Roland Bonaparte. A typical steeked design, the sweater is knitted in the round from the waist up and steeked at the armholes and neckline. The sweater is designed with 4 inches (10.2 cm) of ease. The sleeves are picked up from the steeking and knitted down to the cuff. Both the waist and cuffs are simple turned hems with hem splits. Choose between the full-length sleeve or the three-quarter-length sleeve for warmer weather.

Finished Sizes: 34 (38, 40, 42, 44) inches (86.4 [96.5, 101.6, 106.7, 111.8] cm) chest circumference

Yarn: Swans Island, 100% organic merino wool, worsted weight, 250 yards (228.6m)/100 gram (3.5 oz) skein, 4 (5, 5, 6, 6) skeins of Natural (MC) and 1 (2, 2, 3, 3) skein(s) of Indigo (CC);

Needles: Circular, 24 to 32 inches (60 to 80 cm), depending on size you are making, and 16 inches (40 cm) and double pointed, sizes 5 (3.75 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm) or sizes needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Markers; Stitch holders; Tapestry needle; Grosgrain ribbon or hem binding, 6 feet (1.8 m) of 3?8 to . inch (9 mm to 1.3 cm);

Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rnds = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in Roman Stripe patt on larger needles, washed and blocked
