Mary Germain based the colors and motifs of this pair of spectacular mittens on Erna Jansons’s Design No. 51. A knitted lining makes the pair comfortable and wonderfully warm to wear.

Materials Needed:

  • Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering Weight, 100% wool yarn, fingering weight, 310 yards (283.5 m)/50 gram (1.8 oz) ball, 1 ball of #131F Lemon Grass (A); Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport Weight, 100% wool yarn, sportweight, 184 yards (168.2 m)/50 gram (1.8 oz) ball, 1 ball each of #110S Blueberry (B), #131S Lemon Grass (C), #401S Pewter Green (D), and #N91 Aran (E);

  • Needles, set of five double pointed size 2 (2.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

  • Marker

  • Stitch holder

  • Tapestry needle

Finished size: 7¼ inches (18.4 cm) inner liner circumference, 8½ inches (21.6 cm) outer circumference, and 10½ inches (26.7 cm) long

Gauge: 28½ sts and 42 rnds = 4 inches (10.2 cm) with fingering-weight yarn on size 2 needles; 34 sts and 38 rows = 4 inches (10.2 cm) with sportweight yarn in two-color knitting on size 2 needles
