Punto d'Irlanda Purse

Create an heirloom for you or someone you love. Máire Treanor’s splendid evening purse incorporates shamrocks to add an Irish flavor.

Materials Needed

• DMC Cordonnet Special, 100% mercerized cotton thread, size 60, 317 yards (289.9 m)/20 gram (0.7 oz) ball, 1 ball of Ecru;

• Crochet hook, steel, size 0.6 mm or size needed to obtain gauge

• Plastic straw or double-pointed knitting needle size 10 (6 mm) for buttonies

• Curtain lining fabric in Cream, 12 x 12 inches (30.5 x 30.5 cm) square, 1 piece

• Tapestry needle

• Sewing needle and matching color sewing thread

Finished size: About 5½ inches (14 cm) tall and 4¾ inches (12 cm) wide, without rose and shamrock edging

Gauge: 5 ch-6 sps and 9 rows = about 1 inch (2 cm) in ch-6 mesh; rose or shamrock = about 1 inch (2 cm) diameter
