Materials

  • Flour sack, vintage or new, off-white, cut to 26" × 16" (66.0 × 41.0 cm) with selvedge edge aligned along the 26" edge.
  • Cotton fabrics, six 3" (7.6 cm) squares of coordinating small prints;
  • one 3" (7.6 cm) square of solid yellow;
  • one 1" × 8" (2.5 × 20.3 cm) rectangle green or 5/8" (1.6 cm) wide green bias tape;
  • two 2" × 4" (5.1 × 10.2 cm) rectangles of green fabric, which may be the same fabric as the stem or slightly darker.
  • DMC embroidery floss, 6-strand 100% cotton, 87.7 yard (8 m)/skein, #310 Black, 1 skein
  • Twisted cord, twine, or ribbon, 1 yard (0.9 m)
  • Sewing thread, ecru, 1 spool
  • Straight pins
  • John James Needles, sharp or milliners size 10 and embroidery size 7
  • Finished Bag Size: 13" × 141/2" (33.0 × 36.8 cm)
