These vintage-inspired Clones Lace Fingerless Gloves for a Wedding are romantic, versatile, and an easy project for the crocheter new to both Clones and Irish crochet lace. Irish crochet is the original freeform crochet, so you are free to use these gloves as an inspiration and choose different motifs to make your own design.

Materials Needed

  • DMC Cordonnet Special, 100% mercerized cotton thread, size 80, 394 yards (360.3 m)/20 gram (0.7 oz) ball for the filling; size 60, 317 yards (289.9 m)/20 gram (0.7 oz) ball for the motifs; and size 20, 175 yards (160.0 m)/20 gram (0.7 oz) ball for the padding cord and the ties;1 ball each of White;

  • Crochet hooks, steel size 14 (0.75 mm) for filling, motifs, and padding cord and size 10 (1.3 mm) for ties

  • Plastic straw or double-pointed knitting needle size 10 (6 mm) for buttonies

  • Curtain-lining fabric in Cream for template, 12 x 12 inches (30.5 x 30.5 cm) square

  • Tapestry needle

Finished size: About 6 inches (15 cm) long and 4 inches (10 cm) wide, adjustable

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project; large clematis = 2¼ inches (5.7 cm) diameter; small clematis = 1¾ inches (4.4 cm) diameter; leaf = 1¼ inches (3.2 cm) long; all motifs are worked with size 60 thread
