Where Hands Remember: India’s Living Handicraft Heritage at the National Crafts Museum

Museums usually connect us with the past—ancient and recent history and traditions. The National Crafts Museum and Hastkala Academy (commonly known as the Crafts Museum) in New Delhi, India, is different. It can be called a living museum, as there the past sits comfortably with the present and the future. Most of the objects displayed are still being made and used and represent the wealth of weaving and handicraft traditions throughout India. The museum showcases a living heritage and a way to retain and revive traditional art and craft forms.
