Knit this tam is based upon the Deveraux Tam pattern fromFleisher's Knitting and Crochet Manual(1922). The manual describes it as a simple tam, "made distinctive by well-proportioned stripes." Worked in garter stitch, the striped short-rows do not require picking up the wrapped stitches to produce a well-finished result.

Finished Size: 10&frac12 inches (26.7 cm) in diameter; band, 1&frac34 inches (4.4 cm) wide

Yarn: Isager Alpaca 2, 50% alpaca/50% wool, fingering weight, 270 yards (246.9 m)/ 50 gram (1.8 oz) skein, 1 skein each of #8s Medium Natural Brown (A), #47 Blue Grey (B), and #19 Pink (C)

Yarn Weight: #1 - Super Fine

Needles: Circular, 16 inches (40 cm) sizes 1 (2.25 mm) and 2 (2.75 mm) and set of double pointed size 2 (2.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Stitch marker; tapestry needle; 2-hole button, 7?8 or 1 inch (2.2 or 2.5 cm), 1

Gauge: 32 sts and 40 rows = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in St st on size 2 needles
