Weldon's Practical Knitter, Series 30

The Thirtieth Series has 16 items to knit, including a Vest, Quilt, Borders, Socks, Stockings and more, all from Weldon’s Practical Needlework.

We have reproduced for you here the knitting material from the Thirtieth Series (neither alterations nor corrections were made to the original published in 1896). The 16 patterns range from practical to ornate and include the standout entleman’s Waistcoat Knitted in Basket Pattern; the absolutely adorable Little Moseley Jacket, suitable for a toddler; Bed Sock, in Lemon Pattern Fancy Knit Stripe that are too delicious not to be worn as regular socks; and the stellar Yachting Jersey, intended for “yachting and boating” but “may yet be worn for football and other athletic sports.”

Use the patterns to create your own gorgeous heirloom quilt. Instructions might perplex a contemporary knitter accustomed to detailed charts and succinct directions, but the patterns are often ingenious, and many of the objects transcend the century-plus span of years since they were devised.
