One of Nancy Nehring’s most vivid childhood memories is the pansy bedspread her grandmother crocheted. Here is her striking version of it in the form of a pillow for a couch or chair.

Materials Needed

  • Nazli Gelin Garden, size 10, 100% cotton thread, 306 yards (279.8 m)/50 gram (1.8 oz) ball/, 2 balls of #700-46 Sage (MC) and 1 ball each of #700-12 Violet (CC1) and #700-04 Sun Gold (CC2); www.universalyarn.com
  • Crochet hooks, steel sizes 7 (1.65 mm) and 8 (1.50 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Pillow form, 10 inches (25.4 cm)

Finished size: 10 x 10 inches (25.4 x 25.4 cm)
Gauge: Pansy motif, width between 2¼ and 2½ inches (5.7 and 6.3 cm); 10 dc = 1 inch (2.5 cm) for back Note: Make one complete motif and check gauge; if the complete motif is smaller than 2¼ inches (5.7 cm) or larger than 2½ inches (6.3 cm), the pillow cover will be too small or too large for the pillow form.
