This doily was inspired by many of the edgings Jennifer Raymond has come across in her research. She wanted to incorporate hairpin lace, which creates this lovely and lacy fabric that is entirely different from what other forms of crochet create.

Materials Needed

  • Halcyon Yarn 5/2 Pearl Cotton, 100% mercerized cotton 2-ply yarn, 300 yards (274.3 m)/mini cone, 1 mini cone of #79 Natural; www.halcyonyarn.com
  • Crochet hooks, steel size 8 (1.5 mm) and standard size B/1 (2.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Susan Bates Hairpin Lace Loom; www.makeitcoats.com
  • Fabric, linen/cotton in coordinating color, ½ yard (0.5 m)
  • Tapestry needle

Finished size: Doily: about 24½ inches (62 cm) long and 17 inches (43 cm) wide; edging: about 3½ inches (9 cm) wide
Gauge: 4 (sc, 6 dc) of Rnd 2 = 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide with standard hook
