The original pattern is in the fifth edition of The Lady's Assistant for Executing Useful and Fancy Designs in Knitting, Netting, and Crochet Work (Edinburgh: I. J. Gaugain, 1842). Mrs. Gaugain calls for Berlin wool and No. 9 (U.S. size 5, 3.75 mm) needles. Finished Size: 5¾ inches (14.6 cm) wrist circumference and 4¼ inches (10.8 cm) long

Yarn: Appleton's Crewel Wool, 100% wool yarn, laceweight, 27 yards (24.7 m)/skein, 4 skeins of #757 (MC) and 1 skein each of #756 (CC1), #755 (CC2), #754 (CC3), #753 (CC4), #752 (CC5), #751 (CC6), Rose Pink from darkest to lightest;

Yarn Weight:

Needles: Needles, set of 5 double pointed, size 0000 (1.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle

Gauge: 56 sts and 76 rnds = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in k2, p2 rib
