I really enjoyed making the Forest Snowflake Mini Mittens that were inspired by a wonderful story about vintage miniature mittens by Susan Strawn in the Winter 2024 issue of PieceWork. The mittens incorporate some of my favorite traditional elements: snowflakes, a contrasting palm, and simple shaping. They are wee, and they are charming. I have made some to wear as brooches—a pair is delightful held together with a crocheted or twisted cord, and they also make great decorations.

If maneuvering small double-pointed knitting needles is not for you, then the rhythmic stitching of Laura Rintala’s fabulous Brrr cross-stitch will keep you relaxed and in good spirits this season. Finish the embroidery in a hoop, and hang it up so you can look at the saucy sentiment and the delicate snowflakes every day to remind you of the beauty of winter.
