I love hiking, camping, skiing, canoeing, and otherwise exploring the great outdoors, so I'm always looking for cute, comfy handknit pieces to wear up in the mountains. Some pieces are durable enough to wear during outdoor adventures, but some are beautifully suited to a cozy dinner or a drink by the fire after the day's activities have wrapped up. The lovely Tree Line Henley, designed by Kephren Pritchett for Knitting Traditions 2018, falls into the latter category.

This lovely layering piece is lightweight, soft, and breathable, knitted in two alpaca/bamboo blend yarns. The exact yarns shown in this sample have unfortunately been discontinued, but choose any DK yarn that combines alpaca with something shiny and silky like bamboo, and you'll get a great result. Just be sure to make a gauge swatch!

You'll knit from the top down, so you can ensure a great fit as you work the set-in sleeves and waist shaping that elevate this piece beyond basic Henley styling. I love how the pullover is styled in the magazine, over a mock turtleneck and with a few buttons open for a casual look.

Decorative lines of trees at upper elbow and hip add vintage, woodsy flair to the simplicity of this design. Imagine how cute this piece would be worked in fall colors, or in holiday colors as a gift! Much of this Henley is simple stockinette, so you could try out a few variations to give and keep as you please.
